Bed Rest
Bed rest is not fun! I'm pretty much stuck doing nothing, more nothing than before which seems impossible. I watch tv, read books, do puzzles and call Ryan on the phone downstairs to make him get me stuff, a lot. :-)
Thank you to Tara for updating everyone while I was out of commision with the computer. Also thanks for a real dinner tonight, I can't wait!
Yesterday we got some good news. The doctor will be inducing next Tuesday! Finally! He said he wouldn't be surprised if I went into labor on my own before this but if not I have a "D" day. I've been dialated to three for over a week now and nothing has happened so I feel like I will probably make it to next week.
Call me or email me if you have the time. I'm not doing anything! :-)

An update from the Wilmering family, via a good friend...
Hello, all!
Yes, this is Amanda's good friend Tara bringing you the latest and greatest news from the soon-to-be-family-of-four! I just talked with Amanda on the phone, and since she can't go downstairs (due to being on bedrest), she entrusted me with her blogger log-in name AND password to bring you the scoop! I am quite honored to be her personal blogger...
Here's the news:
-This past weekend: After a non-stress test on Friday, she was admitted to the hospital overnight due to reporting headaches and increased blood pressure. Her doctor said he was being cautious, but nonetheless, it never feels good to spend the night at the hospital (Amanda's first time). An on-duty doc let her go home on Saturday, and she's been home ever since, on bedrest of course. Per Amanda, Ryan is doing a wonderful job ensuring she lays low and takes good care of herself during these last days of pregnancy.
-Tomorrow: Amanda has a dr. appt. at 10AM. She is hoping to learn more information regarding where they'll go from here (a.k.a. when the end will finally be in sight). She is 36 weeks today, and the doc has told her that they can induce at 37 weeks. So, they're getting *really* close.
-Carseats: They were installed today by Amanda's friend, Erica! Yay--the twins now have a safe ride home after they make their grand appearance any day now...
-Rash: It is hardly visable anymore, and thankfully it is feeling better and better. Yippee!
-Mexican food: Tonight Ryan brought home one of Amanda's favorite Mexican dishes from a great local Mexican restaurant! What a husband!
I think this sums it all up! Like all of you, I'm so excited for them and cannot wait to meet their precious little ones... Send lots of prayers to Indy!

35 weeks and 2 days!
Things are going well here. As well as it can when you have a rash all over your body and are on bed rest. Luckily yesterday the doctor gave me some good news, I'm almost done! With the preeclampsia and the babies being a good size he said we can induce at 37 weeks, that is if I don't go into labor sooner. Right now I'm dilated to 3 so there is always the chance. I'm still going twice a week to the hospital for Non Stress Tests, once a week to the lab and once a week to the doctors office. Normally this would be really annoying but knowing that's the only thing I can do it makes it okay.
Ryan's been doing well with taking care of me. Warming up meals and doing laundry after coming home from a long day at work. I hate not being able to do much but I know it's not for much longer.
We can't wait to meet these babies and see what they are! Any guesses?

Bed Rest :-(
Well the doctor called with my lab results yesterday and said that I have mild preeclampsia. It's bed rest time. I can still go to the doctor office and I am allowed to go to the couch rather than staying in bed all day but that's pretty much it. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, Ryan's doing the cooking now...

The Loooooooongest day EVER
Well yesterday morning I had an ultrasound with my regular ob. It's really hard to get a lot of good pictures of anything right now, they are both so squished and there are a lot of shadows. After getting all the measurements they could they were concerned about the babies lack of growth and low amniotic fluid levels. With my blood pressure also starting to inch it's way up the doctor was saying things like "34 weeks is a good time to deliver". First though they wanted to send me over to the perinatologist for a more detailed ultrasound and scan of abbies brains.
They scheduled me in immediately and I had accross the street. Here everything looked much better. they had both babies measuring over 5 pounds and good levels of amniotic fluid. the doctor was quite happy and said our babies are very healthy and we shouldn't worry. Of course it only took an hour and a half of ultrasounding on a table laying practically upside down to determine that. And of course there is a but... While the growth looked great they caught an accelerated heart rate on baby A of over 200. Obviously not good as a baby's heart rate should be between 110 and 170. They were not able to reproduce the heart rate but needless to say they wanted to send me over to the pediatric cardiologists office at Riley Childrens hospital. So they squeezed me in there and I headed downtown.
Luckily after doing echos on both babies hearts and looking at the entire structures more carefully they felt that they both looked good. No reason to be concerned just keep up the NSTs. They had an explanation but my mind was so warped by then I didn't really take it all in.
So you would think my day was over but of course it wasn't. I had to go back up to the Northside for more lab work so they could further investigate my blood pressure. Hmmmm I wonder why my blood pressure might be up, could it be because I have a rash all over my body and all I do is go from hospital to doctors office to hospital all day? Nah.
Well hopefully now things will calm down. Ryan's parents and sister Katie are coming down to help this weekend. Get some food made and freeze it for later. These babies could be here pretty soon!

Quick Update
Well I went to the doctor this afternoon because of the rash. He realizes it's pretty severe and gave me some steroids to start on. We are hoping they work as my blood pressure has now also gone up. They think it may be the stress from the rash but are running tests to make sure it is not preeclampsia as well. We will take it from there. I see him again tomorrow for an ultrasound and visit. I also had an NST today and the babies did really well. They sound great and I didn't have any major contractions. Cross your fingers that theses steroids help, the pharmacist said they may make me a little wired....great.

PUPPPS
That's the name of my rash. I told everyone about it last week but it was NO where near as bad then as it is now. It's pretty much touched every part of my body from the knees to my neck. Some areas are definitely worse than others. Right now my back is driving me insane. There is not much that can be done. I've been using three different types of lotions, one prescribed by the doctor, two I found out about from people who have suffered with this rash. Also I have been taking several oatmeal baths a day and taking benadryl. Anywhere from 1 in 200 to 1 in 150 pregnant women get this rash to varying degrees. Mine is severe to say the least! I go to the doctor Wednesday and am hoping they have more ideas. Ryan has been wonderful even when I break down and cry. 33 Weeks and 3 days!
Today was another ultrasound. I thought it would be my last but it turns out I'm having another one next week. Baby A is now 4 pounds 12 ounces and baby B is 4 pounds 4 ounces, exactly 9 pounds of baby. My stomach is measuring at 40 weeks. Eek! They both have good strong heart beats, 158 bpm and 152 bpm. Also both look like they have a lot of hair. It was hard to get any good looks at anything else on the ultrasound because they are now so crammed in there. Both are still head down. There was a little concern that baby B has a little less amniotic fluid, hence the next ultrasound. they told me to get a lot of fluids this week and they will measure again. It could just be that its hard to measure any good size pockets of fluid because it's hard to measure anything with two babies.
From now on I will be getting Non Stress Tests (NST's) twice a week and seeing the doctor every week. That's a lot of going to the hospital! The NST is basically two monitors, well three in my case, one to monitor contractions and two to monitor the babies heart rates. You just lay there for a little over an hour and watch tv or read a book.
I'm doing okay. Not good, not bad. Still having contractions on a regular basis and sometimes even when I'm not doing anything. I still take terbutalene for that as needed. I got a Rx for a lotion for my stomach today. I'm getting strectch marks (I had been doing so well!) and a rash on my stomach. It's called PUPPS which stands for something I don't remember, it's basically just really itchy and should go away when the babies come out.
The nursery is finished pretty much. My family came down last weekend and helped Ryan put the legs on the dressers and put up some shelves. It was a bit tricky because we realized we didn't have a level, they improvised and it looks great to me!

I'm Big!
Well today I had a doctor appointment. Good news and bad, the doctor says I'm doing so great I could go to 38 or 39 weeks, bad for me good for the twins. I honestly can't imagine being pregnant that much longer. Sure a normal pregnancy is 40 weeks but I'm already as big as a 40 weeker, what will I be in 7 weeks? Yikes.
I discussed labor and delivery a little with the doctor today. We are still shooting for a vaginal delivery as long as both babies are down. It gets complicated if on is head down and one is breech. I'm not sure I want to risk going through a vaginal only to have to go back and have a c-section too. I guess we won't know until we get there and honestly I just want them to get here safely.
Everything is actually going very well which is great. I thought I would feel worse than I do by now so I'm very thankful. I'm definitely not up for a trip to the mall but I can get around pretty decent. I had to go buy another pair of pants the other day which was a bummer. Who wants to spend more money on clothes because you are getting bigger? Today at weigh in I learned that I have gained 37 pounds, it could be worse.
Ryan's parents came down this past weekend. We went to dinner and his Mom cooked for us on Saturday. It was nice to have real food and not have to do any of the work. My parents are coming in a couple weeks, by then I'm not sure I will be able to get off the couch but we shall see.
I just found out the nursery furniture is coming on Thursday, hip hip hooray! I still want to get the nursery ready sooner rather than later, you never know with babies, my water could break tomorrow, let's just hope not. As big as I feel I'm still not ready.

Feeling Full Term!
Well yesterday was a doctor appointment and ultrasound. Everything looked great. Baby A, who is apprently wanting to be first very badly because he/she is already engaged in my pelvis, weighed in at 3 pounds and 7 ounces. (approx 70th percentile, meaning he/she is bigger than 70 percent of babies at this time in gestation). Baby B who is more into getting pictures taken is a little smaller at 3 pounds and 2 ounces. (50th percentile). All this means that i have well over 6 pounds of baby in there already, not to mention two placentas and sacs filled with amniotic fluid! Which by the way they also measured and it looked like they still had good amounts.
It looks like so far my body is handling everything fine. Blood pressure and blood sugar are good. Iron was a little low but not enough to say I'm anemic. I've gained a little under 33 pounds. There is a lot of belly!
Next appointment will be in two weeks although I have to go back today for the second shot of steroids to help develop their brains and lungs in case they come early. I'm thinking they won't be too early but one never knows.

29 WEEKS
!
Hope all is well with everyone. things are getting close for us here in Indy. Ryan and I started our hospitals childbirth class last week. Hopefully we will get something from the classes that are once a week for four weeks. So far it's not too exciting! Tonight I'm going to a breastfeeding class.
The babies are continuing to grow and move a lot! My belly is constantly moving and seems like it changes shape all the time. Tomorrow I have a doctors appointment and ultrasound so we can update more on the sizes then.
Today my friend Erika had the day off so she came over to take some pictures for me and everyone to see just how big I look. Not too bad for 7 months with twins, I hope you agree!

Baby Shower # 2
Well we had a wonderful Christmas up in Michigan. It was nice to visit with all our family and friends. While we were there I had my second baby shower, this time in Novi. It was put on by Ryan's Aunt Linda and his Mom. The theme was monkey/safari, kind of like our nursery. they did a wonderful job and people were so generous. Here are some pictures...
I really didn't think I was THAT big until I viewed these pictures...eek.
I have a doctors appointment on Friday, we'll update more then I'm sure!

Getting bigger!
Yesterday was another Doctor appointment and ultrasound. We found out that baby A is weighing in at 1 lb 12 oz and measuring at about 25 weeks 1 day. Baby B is the porker at 1 lb 14 oz, 26 weeks. The ultrasound tech said they both sem tall, they have long leg bones.
I am also very happy to report that the doctor said it would be okay for me to go to Michigan for the week. I'll just take it easy there next week instead of Indy. This means we get to see all the family and I get to go to my next baby shower. Woohoo! This will be our last trip home for awhile, probably until June. Hope we can see as many people as possible!
Next doctor appointment is in two weeks, they are getting closer and closer together. That will be the week we get to do "fun" things like test for anemia and diabetes and possibly get a steroid shot to help develop the twins lungs in case they come early. I can't wait...

Thank you!
We had our first of two showers this past weekend in Grand Rapids. How fun! I still can't believe how much stuff we got, we couldn't even get it all home. I guess Grandma and Grandpa Adams will have to come visit! Everyone is so generous and we really appreciate it. All our money is going to furniture, diapers and more diapers!
My next Doctor appointment is Thursday, I'll be having an ultrasound and talking with the doctor about going home. Still crossing our fingers that we will be able to go home. everything has been going well, no more crampy back aches or pelvic pain. The doctor has advised me to wear a maternity belt to help hold the babies up, they are getting heavy fast! Right now they are probably a pound and a half each, add to that the placentas and amniotic fluid and it's getting up there! My doctor has also prescribed an extra dose of iron as anemia is very common in twin pregnancies, I don't look forward to that pill one bit.
25 weeks!

I guess Grandma and Grandpa Adams will have to come visit! Everyone is so generous and we really appreciate it. All our money is going to furniture, diapers and more diapers!
My next Doctor appointment is Thursday, I'll be having an ultrasound and talking with the doctor about going home. Still crossing our fingers that we will be able to go home. everything has been going well, no more crampy back aches or pelvic pain. The doctor has advised me to wear a maternity belt to help hold the babies up, they are getting heavy fast! Right now they are probably a pound and a half each, add to that the placentas and amniotic fluid and it's getting up there! My doctor has also prescribed an extra dose of iron as anemia is very common in twin pregnancies, I don't look forward to that pill one bit.

6 Months pregnant!
I have to say even I am starting to lose track of where I am in this pregnancy. Now when I get emails from babycenter or pampers I have to go with what they say because I can't remember how far along I am. I've heard memory loss is a common prego complaint, probably so you'll do it again.
I had a doctor appointment on Monday. Everything has calmed down for now. I am continuing to take it easy, no shopping at the malls, but I am allowed out of the house on occasion. I got my nails done, finally! From now on the doctor is going to be seeing me every two weeks until he wants to see me even more often, hopefully that will be later rather than sooner. We are crossing our fingers that at next week Thursday's appointment the doctor gives me the go ahead to come home for the holidays. He said Monday that he will not guarentee anything until the next ultreasound and cervix check.
This weekend is my first shower. I'm very excited that I get to go. I look forward to seeing everyone and their reactions to my growing tummy.

One Tired Uterus!
Well some of you may have heard that yesterday was a very exciting day for the twins and I. I've been having some pain in my back and stomach and after three days of not being able to walk straight decided to call the Doctor and was given a same day appointment.
I went in Wednesday afternoon and had an exam. My cervix was unchanged and the doctor said "probably just muscles stretching but let'ts put you on the monitor to be sure. So they set me up in a cushy Lazy Boy with OJ and some People magazines and I just relaxed. The first five minutes activity was pretty slow but wouldn't you know I was having some contractions. This is completely normal during pregnancy and especially during twin pregnancies but with the pain I was having and with the consistency I was having them the Doc decided to give me a shot of some medicine to stop the annoying contractions. After the first shot things did slow down but not enough to make the Doc happy and they wheeled me over to the hospital. (Luckily they are connected!)
At the hospital I had another shot of terbutaline (sp?) and had an IV to rehydrate as that can sometimes cause the contractions and "irritated" uterus. Ryan came with puzzles and the paper and we just waited it out. Luckily the babies sounded good the whole time and the Doc decided we could go home.
I am now on "home rest", I have to stick around the house and rest but I'm not on bed rest. I also have oral meds to take if the contractions should kick in more again. I will see the doctor again on Monday to see how things are going and hopefully here I can go back to normal, and to my first Michigan shower, next weekend.
Unfortuneately this does mean we will not be going to Las Vegas this weekend. :-( Sorry Cortney.

Yuck! Winter!
Well the weather outside is gross but that just means we are a little closer to being parents. I know it's still unbelievable to me too!
Today I had a doctor check up, with ultrasound of course. They are doing great. Baby A is on my right side and feet down. He/she is about 1 pound 2 ounces and measuring at 22 weeks 2 days. Heart rate was 138 bpm. Baby B is on the left and is definitely the mover and shaker of the two for now. Baby B is measuring at 22 weeks 5 days and 1 pound 3 ounces. Baby B's heart rate was 142 bpm.
It's hard to see much in the pictures anymore, they are too big to get the full picture but it is fun to watch them moving around in there. They are just now starting to hear and developing their sense of touch. Amazing!
I'm still on track as far as my health goes, good blood pressure and all that fun stuff. I did finally reach the twenty pound mark which is on target for twins if not a pound or two under. The ultrasound tech said I carry well, I look smaller than some she has seen carrying only one baby, I love her.
Baby room is all being ordered. Showers are being planned. It's for real!
